Cheat Day. Decorating Doughnuts.

January 22, 2016

I’m game for anything that will save me a bit of time & effort. My baby keeps me far too busy to be in the kitchen for anything longer than an hour. Although making doughnuts can be hugely fun… the hassle of it all. I’d rather pop the kettle on for a cup of tea & sit right down to eat one (or two) *balance*

I find most decorated doughnuts to be far too sugary & sweet & brightly coloured… I don’t like the bright colours. That’s when I have a cheat day & buy six store-bought doughnuts. All I have to do is make them look pretty. EASY. My cheats doughnut glaze >> thick custard, the powdered variety.

This is what I use & how I do it…

1 cup (250ml) of fairly thick custard (I prefer making from powdered custard for the glaze – it’s thicker. Follow packet instructions)

4 tbsp (60ml) icing sugar, sifted

Sprinkles, loads & loads of sprinkles

6 store-bought doughnuts

And then…

I feel rather silly even writing this… Combine the custard & icing sugar & mix well. Dip or drizzle doughnuts in the thick custard glaze. Sprinkle with sprinkles. Bite.

Happy (cheat) doughnut munching x
