I’ve been in the industry long enough to not get lured in by all of the “food hype” that swarms throughout the food social media circles. Maybe it’s because I was involved in food media before there were ever food blogs, food Twitter feeds, Facebook pages dedicated to the subject or Instagram feeds highlighting food selfies. But all of those channels now make up part of the online food world & because of that, there’s a spot in Cape Town that’s caught my eye. Maybe I’m currently VERY homesick & anything to do with Cape Town has me at “hello”. Maybe. It probably has more to do with the fact that I’ve heard great reviews from people whose opinions on food I value. A spot that combines magnificent views with salty sea air, top-notch cooking & a chef who is making waves (pun alert) on the Cape Town culinary scene. Enter Bliss Boutique Hotel situated in Sunset Beach & their gorgeous restaurant, Beach & Bites, headed by Chef Dean Correira.
Even though I have yet to visit this seaside spot, I couldn’t be greedy & keep info on this beach gem all to myself. The lure of stripey beach deck chairs & fresh & vibrant looking food are everything you would expect from an establishment situated so close to the sea. Chef Dean places an emphasis on “fresh flavoursome fusion” & entices with a touch of Asian flavours, as well as traditional favourites. Think of dishes with names like: “Thai Prawn & Crab Steam Pot With Sweetcorn & Fresh Bread” & “Beer Battered Fish & Chips With Homemade Tartare Sauce” – hello huge amounts of delicious thoughts, hello!
The pictures really say it all. I was hooked on the image of black & white striped deck chairs overlooking a private beach, with a view of Table Mountain. I sat staring at that scene for a good few minutes – I miss Cape Town! As I said, I’m not one to keep a good thing all to myself, so for the food lovers who adore sand, sea & excellent food, indulge in it all & keep Bliss Boutique Hotel, Beach & Bites & Chef Dean Correira on your foodie radar. Don’t say I didn’t warn you about this hot spot – don’t you dare say that.
