Heard Of Son Of A Butcher? Visit his new spot, Carnifleurs {Sea Point}

October 25, 2019

Those who mingle within the Cape Town food scene – on a professional, semi-professional or an entertainment only level, well, they all know of Salvin, owner of Son Of A Butcher. You can get hold of Salvin’s excellent meat products (grass-fed and pasture reared) at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, based at Granger Bay. His chickens are enormous (is that a butchers dream sentence?) – enough to feed six, at least – roast that at your next Sunday lunch gathering. Dry-aged ribeye, springbok wors, Karoo lamb chops (various cuts), free range chicken liver, the tastiest beef mince (the flavour and meat to fat ratio – perfection). I can ramble on and on about the variety of products, it’s easier for me to just say that you should visit the OZC market for yourself and pop into Salvin’s store. Treats galore, including what you will pick up from the other stalls, your weekend meals have never been more easily sourced. But back to the actual reason of me chatting about the butcher man… Salvin’s new spot in Sea Point is proving to be an Atlantic Seaboard hit with local and foreigners alike. Say hello to Carnifleurs, your local floral and butcher store, situated a skip up the road from the Sea Point promenade.

Now what’s so special about this spot? Well, it’s rather lovely. Half of the store comprises of Son Of A Butcher, the other half, Rileys – a gorgeous floral boutique, abundently filled with bright blooms, as well an assortment of treats – from skincare to chocolates, honey cakes to elebration greeting cards galore. Carnifleurs is literally ticking all of the gourmet boxes. On the butchery side expect the following:

  • An assortment of imported pasta products
  • A room specifically created to dry-age meat cuts to perfection
  • Local cheeses
  • A glorious freezer, filled to the brim with meaty foodie delights: bone broths, pies, soups
  • Bread, lovely bread from Woodstock Bakery
  • Poultry, meats and sausages
  • And who can forget eggs? Eddies Eggs from Farmer Eddie, as well as duck and GOOSE eggs. How enormous is that Goose Egg?!
  • Local olive oils

As I mentioned above, Rileys sees to all of your floral needs, as well ensuring your sweet tooth isn’t neglected either. Be sure to grab a pack of giant braai marshmallows (YUM!). I see many a Sea Point sunny braai in your future – many.
